If you’re having numbness, tingling, or even pain in your wrist, a chiropractor knows that the first place to look for a problem is in the neck. The neck is where the nerves that go to the wrist begin. Two of the larger nerves starting at the neck are the median and ulnar nerves. The median nerve travels to the thumb and the first two fingers. The ulnar nerve travels to the last two fingers. Many people who go in for surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome experience no difference, because the problem wasn’t at the wrist, it was in the neck!
Even if the neck isn’t the problem, the nerve may be being irritated in other areas. Pressure could be being placed on the nerve at the shoulder, elbow, and possibly even the wrist because a bone is out of alignment, or a muscle is too tight. It is always a good idea to have a chiropractor examine all of these areas if you are experiencing carpal tunnel. It could save you time, money, and a lot of unnecessary surgeries!
