Common Tests We Utilize At Our Office
COMPREHENSIVE BLOOD PANEL
Our CBP tests multiple systems of the body to give Dr. Sam the best starting point. This is our most common test. It includes what you would typically have done at annual doctor's appointment plus a whole lot more!
For example, doctors will often test serum iron, which is only 1% of the iron in your body. We test not only the serum iron, but also ferritin (iron storage), saturation (how many receptors have iron on them), transferrin (the protein that transports iron), and TIBC (how many iron receptors are wide open.
The same can be said for thyroid markers, digestive markers, inflammatory markers, and so on. Normally, one marker doesn't give us enough information to make good decisions about your health. However, when we see the big picture, we can more accurately take steps to get your health on the right track!
DUTCH HORMONE (& METABOLISM) PANEL
The Dutch urine test is one of our favorite ways to see both hormone levels in the body as well as how the body gets rid of waste products. When hormones are tested in the blood, we're seeing what's in the blood at that moment. However, in urine, we get to see what has actually attached and entered the cells, as well as what has been excreted out over a twenty-four hour time period.
The test shows multiple different detoxification pathways (how the body gets waste products out of the system). Inefficient detox pathways are one of the main reasons patients don't feel well. When we know which pathway/s aren't working, we can more accurately make corrections.
STOOL TESTING
The health of the digestive tract is one of the key components to our overall health. With stool testing, we get an accurate picture of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and permeability of the gut. When it comes to gut health, we want to know that we're properly breaking down and absorbing what we're eating. If we're not doing both of those, we want to know why. Finally, we want to make sure that waste products are quickly leaving the system and that there is no gut permeability allowing for reabsorption. Stool testing helps answer all of these questions and more.
GENETIC TESTING
The good thing about genetics is that they don't change. It's not a test you need to redo every few years. Once you have the test done, you can have a much more guided road to which enzyme pathways are working efficiently in your body, and which ones may need some help.
However, genetics aren't everything, especially with the rise of epigenetics. Epigenetics states that by changing our environment (diet, exercise, stress levels) we can change how our genes work. Epigenetic changes are reversible and do not change your DNA sequence, but they can turn genes on and off.
OATs TEST
The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is a comprehensive functional lab test that measures byproducts of metabolism found in urine, providing a detailed snapshot of a person's overall biochemical health. It is commonly used to assess nutritional deficiencies, mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter balance, detoxification capacity, and the presence of yeast or bacterial overgrowth in the gut.
Because it evaluates over 70 different organic acids, the OAT can reveal underlying issues such as oxidative stress, imbalanced gut flora, poor energy production, and problems with detoxification pathways. This test is especially helpful in identifying subtle imbalances that may not show up on standard blood work and is frequently used in cases of chronic fatigue, mood disorders, digestive concerns, behavioral issues in children, and more.
FOOD SENSITIVITY TEST
Food sensitivity testing helps identify delayed immune responses to specific foods that may be contributing to chronic inflammation, digestive issues, headaches, skin problems, or fatigue. Unlike food allergies, which cause immediate reactions, food sensitivities often produce subtle, delayed symptoms that can be difficult to trace without testing. By measuring IgG antibodies against a wide range of common foods, this test can uncover hidden triggers that are stressing the immune system and contributing to systemic imbalances.
NUTRIENT TEST
Nutrient testing using Genova Diagnostics' NutreVal (Nutritional Evaluation) provides an in-depth analysis of an individual's nutritional status, metabolic function, and overall cellular health. This comprehensive panel evaluates essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, antioxidants, and markers of gastrointestinal and mitochondrial function. It also assesses detoxification pathways and oxidative stress. By pinpointing specific nutrient deficiencies and biochemical imbalances, the NutreVal helps guide precise, personalized supplementation and dietary strategies to optimize health, energy, and healing capacity.
